The #HomeedLinkup Week 3

Thank you once again to everyone who linked up with their home-education themed posts last week. I utterly enjoyed reading through the posts and came away with lots of great new ideas to try with my own children. The link-up seems to be gaining momentum which I hope continues as the posts are really helping many parents find interesting activities and also offer insight into the not-so-weird world of home-education. It isn't as bizarre as it seems from the outside is it?

First things first, I must announce the winner of last weeks wonderful Usborne 'See Inside' history book. The winner was chosen at random and is the lovely Hen from 'The Accidental Home Educator'. I'm sure that her son will be very excited about his new book which will arrive with him very soon. Don't be too upset if you didn't win this week because there will be another book giveaway on next weeks link-up too and all you have to do is link-up with your post - it couldn't be easier.

I intended on giving Hen a mention this week anyway because her post last week was marvellous. A home-school visit to Lewes Children's Book Group Birthday Bash saw Hen schmoozing with none other than Mr Christopher Lloyd - author of the Wall books and champion for home-schooling. Some of you may have seen or heard about him from his recent appearance on the 'Wright Stuff' where he oozed positivity for all things home-ed. It is a post which is well worth a read although it may leave you a little jealous as the event looked quite wonderful.

Claire from 'Angelic Scalliwags' shared a great science post which explained how they had examined the bacteria content on a dish-cloth and the toilet. I am really keen to try this with my children but I'm in need of a second petri-dish so the experiment has been added to the ever growing 'exciting things to try' list. It is an interesting post with clear instructions on how to conduct the experiment yourself.

Finally, I must mention 'Frogotters' post. It isn't always easy to find the time to write detailed, lengthy blog posts when you are also a home-ed mum but Frogotter shared a very well written and extremely helpful post last week about mathematics. If you are looking for a way to make maths more engaging then please pop over to her post which links maths to history in an inspiring way. I am currently planning a few changes to our maths lessons based on the ideas in the post.

Thanks you to everyone who took the time to write and link-up. I know we all have moments at the end of a long home-ed day, after the washing up and tidying is finally done and the activities for the next day have been planned when we think 'I just want to sleep, read or watch telly' but it's worth noting that what we write actually helps other home-educators by offering support and sharing educational ideas. If you can't manage to write this week then why not just share a photograph which sums up your HE week - you don't even have to explain it. I appreciate that even though we aren't, many families will be caught up in World-Cup fever this week so a photograph might prove easier.

Here are the guidelines for the linky.

The link-up is for any home-education based post. It could just be a photograph from the week, your favourite post or a note about a particular success.

If you don't blog but want to get involved then simply post a comment at the bottom of this post so that we can 'meet' you. Nobody wants to click on a link and zoom off to find themselves on an advertising post so please don't link-up with ads. The only other rule is just the good manners one - keep it clean and polite please.

I am really, really looking forward to reading more fabulous posts this week and meeting other home-educators. Please help spread the word about the linky in in doing so the positive message about home-education.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and link-up. I will read, share and comment on all the posts and it would be ever so nice if you could comment on at least three other posts on the list. And remember to spread the blogroll love by adding a few of the blogs listed here to your own site. If you click on they 'blogroll' tab in my menu bar at the top of the page then you should find your URL listed there on my updated list - if not please let me know and if anyone wants to return the favour...

Have a spectacular, sunny, school-free week!
