We really enjoyed our home education group meet-up at the park today. It was warm, sunny and the park was full of beautiful, colourful flowers - it was a lovely day to meet up with friends.
Last night my boys spent the evening collecting twigs and sticks in preparation for today's session. The plan was to make some tree art to hang in our little patch of forest in the park however this turned into something even more fun today. The children made bows and arrows by using sticks, string and feathers and had lots of fun chasing each other around like Robin's Merry men.
We all ate our picnic lunches together before some of the children made chickens from paper plates and cut out shapes. I must thank one of the other mums for bringing along this fun activity - the chickens look fabulous. We added some feathers to ours later at home which Tristan enjoyed.
All the children visited the hatchery where they excitedly looked at the chicks and ducklings. We will do this each week until they are released into the farm yard. This is a lovley activity for us as Tristan will spend the next few weeks learning about the life cycle of a chicken.
We went to see the other animals in the farm centre and the children had a really fun time. I was pleased to finally capture the peacock showing off his gorgeous feathers after months of just missing the shot.
They played in the play area for a very long time before people went their separate ways. We walked through the park with another family and had a peek at our garden area. The fairy circle is looking promising and I do hope that we see flowers appear soon. The boys all played in the stream for a time before we left for home.
It was a wonderful day. Based on the success of the sticks today I think it will be an activity worth repeating next week as well as making some tree decorations of course.
