We read our books for hours this morning. Theo loves the Young Bond series and is nearly on to the next title in the series. Tristan sat and flicked through some books and also played with his foam letters.
We visited the library where Theo ordered a book about film making. Tristan took out a book about animals. We then headed to the shop to buy some household items. Theo added up the cost of the items as we went around the shop and was happy to find that he was correct.
I introduced Theo to the National Trust '50 Things To Do Before You Are 11 3/4' website back at home. He loved registering all the outdoor activities that he has already completed and earning certificates. It is a great idea which encourages children to get outside and try new things. He printed out his '10 Activities ' certificate and has put it on the wall next to his pizza certificate.
Theo worked through the next puzzle in his Maths activity book. He really enjoys doing this. He was also excited to begin a new exercise book.
Tristan had a tea party with his cuddly toys.
I set the boys up at the table with a box of odds and ends and lots of paper and glue. I asked them to create a habitat. I want to make sure that everything we have learnt in Science so far has been remembered and understood by them both. Theo decided to create a pond using an old box and a foil plate. As he began cutting out green paper to make reeds I asked him leading questions about his habitat such as 'I wonder what your frog eats?' He happily chatted away about how birds eat frogs, what frogs eat and the things they would need to make it a suitable habitat. He clearly understands what habitats are and how food chains work.
Tristan also made a pond. He enjoyed painting his box and sticking bits of green paper around his pond. He asked if I could make some tadpoles for him which I did and he then placed them in his pond.
Theo will finish his pond habitat tomorrow when the paint has dried.
Tristan asked if he could have a nap at 3pm which surprised Theo and I. I tucked him up in his bed and he was out like a light.
Theo and I sat and read for a while. I then let him play a game on the Creepy House website whilst I made dinner.
Tristan woke up just in time for dinner. He was much more energetic after his power nap.
We went to athletics tonight even though it was raining quite badly. Tristan and I stood on the field and watched Theo sprinting and jumping over hurdles. He did very well.
Paul picked us up from athletics on his way home from work and we all went to do the shopping.
We are going to finish the habitats and complete some English tomorrow morning when Paul is at work. The beauty of home education is that there is much more time available to do things in. We didn't complete as much today as I would have liked but we will just use the morning to catch up.
