Day 78 - Cardboard & Cake.

Yesterday went by quickly. It was the sort of day where you tuck the kids up into bed in the evening and wonder what exactly happened to the day.

Theo spent hours and hours on his story for the summer reading challenge competition. He was extremely frustrated because the piece could be no more than 500 words which meant that he had to edit his story significantly. He had to delete much of the descriptive scene setting and character development which he found very difficult. By the end of the afternoon he was finally able to enter his story on the website. View his story on his blog.

Theo's story

Tristan spent lots of time constructing a boat from cardboard boxes, plastic tubs and tape. It evolved over the day into a house with a cake attached.

Theo spent some time building his 'bin'. He invented a lever operated lid but was disappointed when it did not work as he expected. He changed his plan and will have another go next week.

At 4pm the boys and I began making a cake for Paul's birthday. They took it in turns to break the eggs, weigh ingredients and use the mixer. Once the cake was cooked and cooled they worked together to spread the jam and ice the top. Theo was extremely irritated by his little brother who insisted on licking his jammy spoon and then using it to spread more jam on the base. He was given a lesson in hygiene by his big brother. The cake was finished with chewy sweets and a 'Happy Birthday' message.

Theo went to his Athletics lesson after dinner. Tristan and I accompanied him and we spent the time chasing each other around the field.

The weekend will be fun as it is Paul's birthday. The boys have decorated the house with balloons and are looking forward to eating the cake.
